Theoretical investigation of the signal-to-noise ratio for different fluorescence lifetime imaging techniques

چکیده
Using Monte-Carlo methods, we have investigated the signal-to-noise ratio obtainable for different fluorescence lifetime imaging methods. Quantum noise limited performance and mono-exponential decays were assumed. We have also investigated the importance of parameter choice and implementation for the different methods. In addition, our simulations were in many cases compared with analytical theoretical investigations. The results from the simulations proved to be in good agreement with the theoretical results. It was found that all the investigated lifetime imaging methods have the potential to produce a high signal-to-noise ratio, but careful attention must be paid to implementation method and parameter choice in order to get optimal results.

Theoretical investigation of the signal-to-noise ratio in fluorescence lifetime imaging.
We deduce the signal-to-noise ratio for fluorescence lifetime imaging when using frequency-domain methods. We assume mono-exponential decay and quantum-noise-limited performance. The results are compared with Monte Carlo simulations with good agreement. We also compare our results with previous investigations of time-domain methods for fluorescence lifetime imaging. For a given number of detect...
متن کاملInvestigation of the Effect of Penicillin as a Green Corrosion Inhibitor for Mild Steel Using Electrochemical Techniques
In this paper, the effect of penicillin G drug as a green corrosion inhibitor on mild steel in 1.0 Mhydrochloric acid solution has been investigated using potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemicalimpedance spectroscopy (EIS) and electrochemical noise (EN) techniques. The inhibition efficiencywas found to increase with increasing inhibitor concentration. Potentiodynamic polarizationmeasureme...
متن کاملOptimization of Imaging Parameters in Micro-CT Scanner Based On Signal-To-Noise Ratio for the Analysis of Urinary Stone Composition
Introduction: Micro-CT scanner with a resolution of about 5 micrometers is one of the modalities used to create three-dimensional/two-dimensional images of urinary stones. This study aimed to optimize imaging parameters in micro-computed tomography (CT) scanner based on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of urinary stones for the analysis of stone composition. <stro...
متن کاملProper integration time of polarization signals of internetwork regions using Sunrise/IMaX data
Distribution of magnetic fields in the quiet-Sun internetwork areas has been affected by weak polarization (in particular Stokes Q and U) signals. To improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the weak polarization signals, several approaches, including temporal integrations, have been proposed in the literature. In this study, we aim to investigate a proper temporal-integration time with which...
متن کاملImproving the quality of ultrasound images using Bayesian estimators
Medical ultrasound imaging due to close behavior of cancer tumors to body tissues has a low contrast. This problem with synthetic aperture imaging method has been addressed. Although the synthetic aperture imaging technique solved the low-contrast problem of ultrasound images, to an acceptable limit, but the performance of these methods is not even acceptable when the signal to noise ratio (SNR...
